Sony Xperia Z5: everything we think we know

It's been a strange year for Sony as far as flagship smartphone releases are concerned. The firm was widely expected to make a splash with the Xperia Z4 and pit it directly against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S6, the HTC One M9and the LG G4.
The Xperia Z4 did appear, but with very little fuss and only in Japan. The rest of the world has had to make do with the Xperia Z3+ up until now, which isn't much of an upgrade on the Xperia Z3 from last year. What's Sony's next move going to be?

What is the Sony Xperia Z5?

We're not sure that the Sony Xperia Z5 actually exists, but we're using it to refer to the company's next flagship phone, whatever that might be. After the rather muted launches of the Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z3+ it seems reasonable to assume Sony has something big in the pipeline, but at this stage it's difficult to tell.
The Xperia Z4 features a Snapdragon 810 processor which puts it right up with the best phones of the year; however, it sticks with a 1920 x 1080 pixel full HD 5.2-inch display, which is getting a little dated now. The Xperia Z3+ has the same specifications inside though it comes with a slightly smaller battery.

And that leads us on to the Xperia Z5: with such a small upgrade for this year's phones the Z5 should be a phone that's worth waiting for, if it ever sees the light of day. So far rumours have been thin on the ground, so don't bet your house on this smartphone turning up any time soon.
