The iPad Pro is still being talked about as being a thing, even though it seems to us that the MacBook covers that territory pretty well. Despite that, rumours about Apple's potential big sibling to the iPad continue to trickle out.
The iPad Pro was supposed to see the light of day last
year, but the latest word is that it's still coming, and that Apple is
working on a dual app mode for the larger iPad.
The split-screen
feature, you may recall, was also due to see the light of day last year,
as part of iOS 8, but this never happened as Apple prioritised
finishing the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch.
Of course,
multi-task-friendly split screens, when they become an iOS reality,
could not only debut on the larger iPad, but also on smaller iPads and
even the ever-expanding iPhone, with the mode supporting 1/2, 1/3, and
2/3 views depending on the apps.
However, the ever-vigilant 9to5Mac,
who scooped up all the above info from "sources", add that the feature
has been developed with the iPad Pro in mind, and may only surface once
this larger tablet is out in the open.
Current thinking places the feature to launch on iOS 9
this June at Apple’s WWDC meeting. A launch date for the iPad Pro has
yet to be finalised as not only is the software yet to be completed but
hardware components for the tablet may not be readily available. Or
Apple may just not think it's a great idea, the same as an big-screen
Apple Television.
Alongside a tweaking of the main OS, core apps
and features are also being considered for a redesign, to take into
account the increased acres of screen real estate.
